November 2019 Meeting

A special treat for Stormy Petrels!!

Our own “Priory Schoolmaster” Sheldon Goldfarb is offering, to Petrel members attending the November meeting, a complimentary copy of his book:

Sherlockian Musings mockup 3

This wonderful book has received many positive reviews by International Sherlockians.

“My name is Sherlock Holmes…my business is that of every other good citizen – to uphold the law.”

November’s adventure was first published in Liberty for March 1927 and in The Strand  for April 1927.  The last of the short stories, written just 3 years before the death of ACD (aged 71)

On November 5th the Stormy Petrels will meet to discuss “Shoscombe Old Place“, an adventure which is overloaded with “D’s”: death; deception; desperation; drama; denial; deduction; a dark crypt and a dog.

Something unusual has happened at Shoscombe that has caused the inhabitants to behave strangely.

Let’s discuss why!

When:  Tuesday, Nov. 5th at 7:00 p.m.

Where:  The lounge in the Chatham at Hampton Place.

Bonus Question for those attending:  Name two types of fish named in the story.

For an added BONUS, can you name four types of fish mentioned in the story?

October 2019 Meeting

Please note that due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control, the meeting, for this month only, will take place on the second Tuesday (October 8th)

The adventure for discussion is: “The Veiled Lodger”, first published in Liberty Magazine and in the Strand Magazine in 1927.

A sad tale of a failing circus, a lion, a love triangle, disfigurement and murder.

Mrs. Ronder lives behind a dark veil. Why?  And why , after 7 years, does she want to reveal what happened on that tragic night at the circus? Why does she want Holmes to listen to her tale? While he is familiar with the event, he does listen.

Please feel free to join the Petrels as they discuss “The Veiled Lodger”.

When:  Tuesday, Oct. 8th at 7:00 p.m. (please arrive earlier, as the meeting will begin at exactly 7)

Where:  The lounge of The Chatham, Hampton Place, UBC (near Wesbrook Mall/16th Ave)

Bonus question for those attending the meeting:  Two days later, what did Holmes receive from Mrs. Ronder?
