THE STORMY PETRELS OF B.C. AT 35

It seems like only yesterday that a small handful of Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts met after our founder, Barbara Roden, returned from a meeting of the Bootmakers of Toronto.

Now, 35 years later, we are still going strong!

Please help us celebrate on September 10, 2022 in South Surrey, B.C. for a day of fun and fellowship. Games, food, 50/50 draw, prizes and a book sale table!

It’s not too late to be put on the program if anyone is willing to be a speaker.

Please contact Fran and/or RSVP to: franziskah@shaw.ca

AUGUST 2022 MEET-UP

Happy Summer, Petrels and Fellow Sherlockians everywhere!

We are planning to meet, after a long while, for an informal gathering and lunch. Since we did not meet at all in July, we will have much to talk about.

The plan is to meet at The Milltown Bar & Grill at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 6th.

I will need to make a reservation on the patio, so if you have not already contacted Sheldon or myself, please do so as soon as possible.

e-mail me at: franziskah@shaw.ca

The actual address is 9191 Bentley Street, Richmond, but you can only get there through Marpole (South end of Granville St)

Hope to see you all there!

JUNE 2022 MEETING REPORT

The Stormy Petrels met in person for the first time since March 2020 (excluding our Christmas Petrel Holiday Tree decorating in 2021)

December 2021 with Sheldon, Lea, Brian, Ana, Fran, Petrel Tree, Bob, Gary. (photo by Johnnie)

Eleven members attended for discussion and fellowship. Twelve, if you include the little furry constable which Brian placed on the mantelpiece to keep the peace. He sang “Bad Boys, Bad Boys”.

We did miss our Zoom members and out-of-town friends, and hope to have a special Zoom meeting to catch up with them once again.

We have no special event or meeting planned for the month of July.

Plans are in the works for an August event, which will include a pub visit. Most likely The Wolf and Hound, where Brian, Bob and Fran met after a visit with the City Gardener back in 2019.

Stay tuned for further announcements.

JUNE 7, 2022

Attention all local (Vancouver area) Sherlockians!!

We will, once again, meet in person at our usual venue (the Chatham lounge) for a regular study session.

We will have a close look at “The Resident Patient”

First published in the Strand Magazine in 1893.

Depending on which version you are reading, you may be missing the “thought reading” section. This section was written for “The Cardboard Box” but was suppressed in 1894-1917 and was added to “The Resident Patient”.

When: Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 7:00 pm

Where: Hampton Place/Wesbrook Mall (UBC)
