21st Annual “Silver Blaze” Race

Petrel Dame Johnston-Keddis (Johnnie) invites all Stormy Petrels and guests to her South Surrey Country Estate for a fun-filled afternoon!

Saturday, the 13th day of August 2016 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon

“Come for an event-full afternoon of high stakes betting, games and prizes.  For your dining pleasure, High Tea will take place on the Manor House Terrace.

The theme this year is Hats and Ascots.

Reserve your Grandstand seats now.  Petrels are urged to RSVP so that the staff will be able to set up adequately for the large flock.

Directions will be sent separately.

Please bring a pot luck dish suitable for a hearty supper for the hungry Petrels who have come from far and wide.  The BBQ will be set up for those who’d like to char a little something for themselves, and Cook will be on hand to assist.  Sherry, ale and other delightful libations are permitted.

The Gamekeeper requests that you keep your dog on a leash so as not to disturb the chickens.”

Just a reminder that you do not need to bring cash.  Envelopes of play monies will be provided for all to wager on their favourites.  The participant with the most “money” when all the races have been run, will recieve a lovely prize.

“Reichenbach” Picnic & Auction

A dozen Petrels and three guests flocked to “Toad Hall” (Haffenden residence in North Vancouver) on Saturday, July 16th 2016 for a day of remembering and refreshments.

After a delicious picnic lunch, President Fran, uttering the oft-quoted words “…the best and wisest man….” offered the hand-crafted memorial wreath over the edge to be carried down the mountainside.

The flock of Petrels then retreated to the back lawn to enjoy a game of “Getting Getrie’s Garter” (aka The Leg Game)

Tim M. managed to lob one small hoop (garter) over the high-heeled, fish-netted stocking leg. Father of Ana S. (guest) managed a larger hoop. The rest of us just had a lot of fun!

Next came the auction. Bob C. kindly volunteered to play auctioneer.(pictured below). 100% of monies raised will go towards the Stormy Petrels’ 30th Anniversary celebrations in 2017.

Relaxing on the lovely sun deck, enjoying the company and hostess Elsa’s coffee and cake, we all marveled at Len’s show and tell.

The evening came to a close with everyone reminding each other of our next event:

The “Silver Blaze” races on the borders of Surrey on Saturday, August 13th. Details to follow shortly.
