JUNE 2022 MEETING REPORT

The Stormy Petrels met in person for the first time since March 2020 (excluding our Christmas Petrel Holiday Tree decorating in 2021)

Eleven members attended for discussion and fellowship. Twelve, if you include the little furry constable which Brian placed on the mantelpiece to keep the peace. He sang “Bad Boys, Bad Boys”.

We did miss our Zoom members and out-of-town friends, and hope to have a special Zoom meeting to catch up with them once again.

We have no special event or meeting planned for the month of July.

Plans are in the works for an August event, which will include a pub visit. Most likely The Wolf and Hound, where Brian, Bob and Fran met after a visit with the City Gardener back in 2019.

Stay tuned for further announcements.

JUNE 7, 2022

Attention all local (Vancouver area) Sherlockians!!

We will, once again, meet in person at our usual venue (the Chatham lounge) for a regular study session.

We will have a close look at “The Resident Patient”

First published in the Strand Magazine in 1893.

Depending on which version you are reading, you may be missing the “thought reading” section. This section was written for “The Cardboard Box” but was suppressed in 1894-1917 and was added to “The Resident Patient”.

When: Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 7:00 pm

Where: Hampton Place/Wesbrook Mall (UBC)

May 10th Meeting

The May 10th meeting has been cancelled. The Stormy Petrel Executive have made a decision at their semi-annual meeting.

We will resume in-person meetings beginning with the June meeting. We will be back to meeting at the Chatham (UBC) on the first Tuesday of the month.

Details of the June meeting will be posted soon.

MAY 3, 2022 MEETING

This meeting will take place via Zoom and will be run by our “Priory Schoolmaster” Sheldon Goldfarb. The attendees will be treated to Sheldon’s reading of his Musings on the story.

What is the story for May’s meeting? “The Crooked Man” which was first published in the Strand Magazine and in Harper’s Weekly in July 1893.

(taken from “The Sherlock Holmes Companion – An Elementary Guide by Daniel Smith)

This is a case featuring a locked room, a mysterious creature, a piercing scream heard by the staff, a dead man’s face contorted in fear.

It is a tale of betrayal and revenge. What more could you ask for?

When: Tuesday, May 3rd at 7:00 pm (West Coast Time)
