“The Great Hiatus”

“I travelled for two years in Tibet…visiting Lhassa…I then passed through Persia, looked in at Mecca, paid a visit to Khartoum…research in…Montpellier, in the south of France.” EMPT

The Petrels are taking a hiatus of sorts. However, wherever your travels lead you, be sure to return for the annual Petrel BBQ and croquet on the “Borders of Surrey” on August 15th. (3:00 pm)

“…a couple of brace of woodcock, a pheasant, and a pate de fois gras pie with a group of ancient and cobwebby bottles.”
NOBL

“Doyle once wrote of Sherlock Holmes…I feel towards him as I do towards pate de fois gras, of which I once ate too much, so that the name of it gives me a sickly feeling to this day.” (reported in Hesketh Pearson, Conan Doyle New York: Walker & Co. 1961)

“REICHENBACH FALLS” – June 20th, 2009

The next special event for the Stormy Petrels will be “Reichenbach Falls”

This day will include the memorial wreath tossing, a visit to Vincent Starrett’s mother’s grave-site, a pot-luck supper and a visit to our own “company store”

We will begin at 1:00 pm at “Toad Hall” and carpool to the “Falls” and the cemetary. Back at “Toad Hall” we will enjoy our refreshments, and if we are lucky, perhaps a game or three of “Sherlock-O”. In lieu of an auction, Len has decided to open the “Company Store” which houses some Petrel supplies such as note paper, key chains, cards, etc. which promise to become future collector’s items.

If you would like more detail on this event, please contact your Consulting Detective.

JUNE MEETING

“Who knows, Watson? Woman’s heart and mind are insoluble puzzles to the male.”

The next regular meeting of the Stormy Petrels will take place “Chez Wood” on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7:00 pm. The story for discussion is “The Illustrious Client”

Many thanks to Marlena who allowed us to tour her most amazing home in Richmond. Mere words cannot describe all that we saw, and all that we felt. Petrels will hopefully be able to see some photos in the next “Petrel Flyer”.

“Fairbounre House”

Petrels and guests are cordially invited to tour Fairbourne House on Saturday, May 30th. The address: 3691 Rees Road, Richmond. Time: 1 o’clock pm. Light refreshments will be served. Please mark your calendars.
