NOVEMBER MEETING 2015

We are now discussing the final third of “The Hound of the Baskervilles

(chapters 11-15)

Dr. Watson travels to Coombe Tracey to interrogate Laura Lyons.

What do you think of his methods? Was he successful in gaining information from her? What do you think about Mr. Frankland?  Who did he spy with his roof-top telescope?

Dr. Watson finally discovers the identity of the man on the Tor. Who is he and what was Watson’s reaction?

“Evil indeed is the man who has not one woman to mourn him.” Who was Holmes referring to?

We find Lestrade joining Holmes and Watson, who admits: “As long as I have my trousers I have a hip-pocket, and as long as I have my hip-pocket I have something in it.” What question did Holmes ask him to warrant such a response?

The next meeting of the SPBC will take place at our usual Hampton Place on Tuesday, November 3rd at 7:00pm

The question for the prize draw is:

What did Lestrade bring with him from London that proved helpful to both Sir Henry and Mrs. Stapleton?

OCTOBER 2015 MEETING

“”Welcome, Sir Henry! Welcome to Baskerville Hall!”

On Tuesday, October 6th, the Stormy Petrels will meet to discuss the next 5 chapters of “The Hound of the Baskervilles”

The first 5 chapters gained high marks from the members at the Sept. meeting. Will the next 5 chapters (6 through 10) prove as popular?

“That is the great Grimpen Mire,” said he . “A false step yonder means death to man or beast.”

Who was the woman sobbing in the night? Why was a mounted soldier watching the road? Why did Miss Stapleton utter a warning of “Go back to London!”? What was Barrymore up to at the window late at night?

So much to discuss at Hampton Place, 7:00 pm on Oct. 6th

Enter your name for the book prize draw by answering the following question:

PETRELS SOLVING MYSTERIES!

The game was definitely afoot in Crescent Beach on the 17th of September, 2015, as 22 Stormy Petrels (including guests) flocked to the Crescent Beach Bistro.

Playwright Trevor Jenkins, our host and quizmaster, did a wonderful job of writing a Sherlockian mystery for us to solve.

The actors demonstrated their knowledge of the characters.

Many thanks go to Stormy Petrel, Johnnie, for consulting with Trevor and bringing it all together!

Many thanks also go to Linda and her amazing staff (kudos to the chef!)

We were very pleased, to say the least, to welcome two SoB’s (members of the Sound of the Baskervilles of Seattle) Margie Deck and Sheila Holtgrieve.

Irene Adler (aka Martha Scrase) proved to be a true song bird! Her voice resonated with such power!

Petrel Brian won a prize for arriving in costume. Costume? What costume? Doesn’t he always look like this?

Congratulations to Margie, Sheila and Co. for scoring a fine bottle of B.C. wine.  Problem-solvers extraordinaire!

We all put our deductive skills to the test and discovered whodunnit. But why?

After a lovely rendition of “A Time to Say Good-bye” host Trevor hinted at perhaps another instalment. We can but hope!
