2015 Int’l Pacific West Coast Sherlockian Summit

After crossing the border into the U.S., it took less than an hour to reach our destination – Skagit River Brewing in Mount Vernon, WA.

Once there, the Stormy Petrels were welcomed with open arms by the Sound of the Baskervilles, whose member Al Nelson organized the occasion.

The afternoon began with a game of trying to identify which canonical character you are. This had people mingling and taking to each other, getting to know everyone.

There were five societies represented. The Stormy Petrels (pictured – Krista Lee, Andy, Johnnie)

Margie Deck and Sheila Holtgrieve (also joined the Petrels) organized a game in the form of a type of Sherlockian-themed “mad-lib” Teams of four tables put their heads together to fill in the blanks of one of the unrecorded cases, and a rep from each team read out the complete story.

Thanks to the SoB’s there were many items to give away. From books, to posters, to mugs, to wine glasses, to fridge magnets, to soap, to a very Sherlockian Holiday wreath.

Hopefully, we can all meet again. The food, the fun, the fellowship! Doesn’t get much better than this!

The game was definitely afoot in Crescent Beach on the 17th of September, 2015, as 22 Stormy Petrels (including guests) flocked to the Crescent Beach Bistro.

Playwright Trevor Jenkins, our host and quizmaster, did a wonderful job of writing a Sherlockian mystery for us to solve.

The actors demonstrated their knowledge of the characters.

Many thanks go to Stormy Petrel, Johnnie, for consulting with Trevor and bringing it all together!

Many thanks also go to Linda and her amazing staff (kudos to the chef!)

We were very pleased, to say the least, to welcome two SoB’s (members of the Sound of the Baskervilles of Seattle) Margie Deck and Sheila Holtgrieve.

Irene Adler (aka Martha Scrase) proved to be a true song bird! Her voice resonated with such power!

Petrel Brian won a prize for arriving in costume. Costume? What costume? Doesn’t he always look like this?

Congratulations to Margie, Sheila and Co. for scoring a fine bottle of B.C. wine.  Problem-solvers extraordinaire!

We all put our deductive skills to the test and discovered whodunnit. But why?

After a lovely rendition of “A Time to Say Good-bye” host Trevor hinted at perhaps another instalment. We can but hope!
