The Petrel Christmas Tree

Five orange pips,
A bicycle,
A photo of the Queen,
A Christmas goose,
A speckled band,
A tie-pin – emerald green

A coronet,
Some dancing men,
The devil-hound – ’tis true!
A fat cockroach,
An old clay pipe,
A carbuncle or two.

A deep-red ‘cardinal tosca’,
A magnifying glass,
A mazarine stone and mogul,
Pince-nez – gold, not brass.

A violin, a man’s lost thumb,
A big, fat honey-bee,
A silhouette and deerstalk’ cap
Atop our Petrel tree!

AT THE OMSI

GEDC0505 Your ‘Consulting Detective’ was in Portland, Oregon recently to experience The International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes.

The exhibit certainly did not disappoint.  Arrive early as there is so much to see and do.

The re-creation of the sitting room was very impressive. The attention to detail was amazing.

GEDC0503 The booklet you receive will allow you to gather clues to a murder.

It was not as easy as I thought.   Study the marks in the stand, the bullet’s trajectory, match the blood splatter and more.

After January 5, 2014, the exhibit will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio.
GEDC0500 I was very pleased to meet with the well-known Sherlockian, Sonia Fetherston, BSI, author and contributor to the Baker Street Journal and other publications.  We had much to discuss over lunch at the gorgeous Benson Hotel.

I also had the opportunity to meet up with several of the Portland Sherlock Holmes group, “The Noble and Most Singular Order of the Blue Carbuncle”. Hopefully the exhibit will come to Vancouver, but not after touring nine more US cities.

INTERNATIONAL EXHIBIT OF SHERLOCK HOLMES

This amazing, interactive exhibit is happening now in Portland, Oregon at the science museum.
You can visit it at this location until January 5, 2014 before it moves on to Columbus, Ohio.

The exhibit features original manuscripts and period artifacts, investigative tools and crime-solving opportunities. Participate in experiments.

Visit Dr. Conan Doyle’s study; visit the sitting room at 221b; visit the gallery which houses a collection of Sherlockiana, including games, comics, magazines, radio broadcasts, movie clips, and television shows.

Being provided with a book of clues, visitors will be able tap into their own powers of observation to solve a new Sherlock Holmes mystery written by Daniel Stashower.

Please visit their website at http://www.sherlockholmesexhibition.com for more info and to view pictures and videos.

Tickets can also be purchased online.

Thank you to Petrel friend, Brenda for having sent this info.

“The Hound of the Baskervilles”

Most people, Sherlockian or not, have heard of The Hound of the Baskervilles.  This production is like no other retelling of the tale. The hellish beast roaming the moors of Dartmoor.

The three actors who, through quick costume changes, were brilliant in their roles. From the French Sherlock ‘olmes to the ‘ravishing’ Cecile Stapleton.

The group of Stormy Petrels who attended this production were all thoroughly entertained, to say the least.

You can still witness this wonderfully hilarious spoof, the Western Canadian premier, at the Newton Cultural Centre, located at 13530 – 72nd Ave., Surrey, on until October 31st.  The fog begins rolling across the moor at 7:30.

Well done!
